The ancient art of Chromotherapy or colour therapy is a therapeutic system that harnesses the energies of colours of light to promote physical and emotional healing. Colour therapy dates back to the ancient Egyptians, and has been used for centuries in China and India. In the West, it is supported by scientific research and has numerous medical applications.

Colour is made up of the visible waves of energy that pass through the earth’s atmosphere. They are part of the electromagnetic spectrum along with radio, microwave, infrared, ultraviolet (UV), x-rays, and gamma rays. Like these invisible electromagnetic waves, rays in the visible spectrum have an affect on us.

A lot of research has been done into the impact of the different colours on our behaviour. We know for example that the colour red can speed up our respiratory systems and make us feel energized. The colour orange can make us feel hungry and blue will relax us.

Using the colours of the spectrum, Colour Therapy aims to re-balance and enhance our body's energy centres and also to help stimulate our body's own healing process.

Because gemstones and crystals reflect colour they are an invaluable tool for Colour Therapists.
